Online education in Graphics designing, does this exist?

Hello,
here’s the story
I live in Switzerland and am currently doing an apprenticeship in IT but have always had a hand in drawing (I don’t wish to boast, but I’m judging from how people fawn over my skill) and a knack for picking fitting colors, formatting different layouts, ect. .
Yet, I’ve noticed that working on servers and PC support isn’t what I wish to to professionally.
I love this education and plan on using this knowledge, but it doesn’t seem to fit my dreams job wise.

If I want to start an apprenticeship as a Graphics Designer (I think this is the correct term) I need to have absolved a fore-course in graphics design. This, however, would take a year and I don’t feel like spending that much time on stuff I dare to say I’m already “good at”. I’m not saying I don’t need the education, it would just seem redundant in my case.
At the moment I am looking for fore-courses that I could take in addition to the last year of my apprenticeship, but something else also occurred to me:

Is it possible to gain a well recognized education (preferably from america or english for that matter) online?
I picture this as a form of podcast where I send in my “homework”.

I have started tutoring myself with the most major graphics programs like Adobe illustrator, Photo-shop and InDesign… but there is also work to be done with water colors and charcoal (ect.) that I am aware of.

So, does such an online class exist with some form of recognition? or am I barking up the wrong tree…?
thank you :)
